I read the 5 seconds rule from Mel Robbins. And I was surprised how an idea that simple could remain hidden from generations of people.
Usually when I read motivational quotes by people or some strategies, I know that these are generally true but there is no magic formula to transform the person. In the end, everyone has to fight their own battle according to their unique circumstances.
She, however, has surpassed that limit in the sense that the rule is true for a variety of situations, people and motives. Here it is.
If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea.
The idea is applicable for completing simple house chores to important tasks in a business environment. According to her,
Knowing what to do will never be enough.
Knowing why you need to do it will never be enough.
So what we need is something that’s going to launch us into a state of action. Because if you’re sitting around waiting for motivation, I’m here to tell you it’s not coming.
So next time something needs to be done, the moment the idea to do that is born in your mind, start moving before 5 seconds are up. That probably is once and for all cure of procrastination habit.
